Kuala Lumpur, 5 April 2018 – Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corporation) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) have collaborated to organise a business-matching programme called MyPITCH during the Malaysia International Halal Showcase 2018 (MyPITCH@MIHAS 2018). It is the first time such a programme has been organised to further grow exports of Malaysian halal products and services.
Based on the concept of BioPitching by Bioeconomy Corporation, MyPITCH@MIHAS 2018 is a platform for 19 participating bio-based companies to pitch their halal certified products directly to over 40 local and international buyers, including those from Singapore, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Russia, Italy and New Zealand. Over 30 products were pitched during the event, under the categories of cosmetic and personal care, agro-based and food, as well as nutrition and wellness.

According to Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE, Ir Dr Mohd Shahreen Zainooreen Madros, the collaboration aims to address a niche segment within the halal economy. He noted that the halal economy is complex and Malaysia needs to be innovative in tapping the opportunities arising from various facets of the halal economy. “For this to happen, all related Government agencies need to continue collaborating to better harness each other’s resources and know-how,” he said.
MyPITCH@MIHAS 2018 marked the first pitching series by Bioeconomy Corporation in 2018, with the next event happening during BioMalaysia 2018 in September. The pitching sessions aim to assist participants in gaining market exposure of their products while strengthening networking between companies, industry players and market players to bridge the gap between production and commercialisation in the bio-based industry.
