New MOU exchanges between Bio-Based companies
Johor Bahru, October 22, 2013 ~ In line with providing local biotechnology players with a strategic platform to engage in today’s fast growing bio-based industry, BioMalaysia & Bioeconomy Asia Pacific 2013 today witnessed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) exchanges between local and foreign companies.
The MoUs are between:
1. Terra Garden Biotech (M) Sdn Bhd and Bio Solar Wind Energy Pte Ltd to officially set up a joint venture company in Malaysia to explore and exploit the potential biomass, in particular, a sterile hybrid of napier grass for the production of high quality animal feed and renewable energy.
2. Green World Genetics Sdn Bhd and Yuksel Seed Co. Ltd to leverage on the strength of Yuksel seed in biotechnology and the strength of Green World Genetics Sdn Bhd in global network to develop and market high value hybrid seed in Malaysia and Asia Pacific.
Another notable event was the BiotechCorp awarded BioNexus status to Sea Party Aquaculture Sdn Bhd and Sea Party Microbes Sdn Bhd.
Both companies are two of five investments totaling about RM2 billion by Taiwan Sea Party Technology Co. Ltd in Tanjung Manis Halal Hub in Sarawak.
Sea Party Aquaculture Sdn Bhd is involved in Tilapia, marine fish and shrimp farming projects that focuses on hybrid tilapia fish farming. This hybrid fish farming will be incorporating modern Recirculated Aquaculture System to mass produce whole tilapia for commercial purposes.
The hybrid fish farm produces high yield of male tilapia without the use of hormones therefore producing safe halal food in a conducive ecosystem.
Apart from the MoU exchanges, Melaka Biotechnology Corporation (MBC) was awarded the quality certificate ISO and The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Good Laboratory Practice (OECD GLP) by National Pharmaceutical Control MBC is responsible for the development of the biotechnology sector in Melaka. The company provides timely and focused research in key biotechnology areas such as agro, food, industrial and environmental biotechnology.
The three day conference and exhibition, held for the first time outside of Kuala Lumpur, is regarded as one of the leading biotechnology event in the region. This year’s edition will see participation of 160 exhibitors and more than 250 local and international conference delegates. Bureau (NPCB) and Standards Malaysia.
