Three MOUs Worth Over USD20 Million Exchanged During The Launch of Green Innovation Week At The Malaysia Pavillion

26 JUNE 2017, Astana, Kazakhstan – Three Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements were exchanged today during the launch of “Green Innovation: Powering the Future” Week at the Malaysia Pavilion here at EXPO 2017. Worth over USD20 million, the MOUs further strengthened the trade and cooperation in the field of green technology between Malaysia and EXPO 2017’s host country Kazakhstan, as well as the Malaysia Pavilion’s neighbors, China and India.

The parties involved in the three MOUs exchanged are:

1. Ronser Biotech, an integrated wastewater treatment solutions specialists, and MEC LLP based in Kazakhstan, with Ronser appointing the latter as the exclusive representative to distribute in Kazakhstan and Central Asia its wastewater treatment system that converts high organic wastewater to clean energy (biogas power generation) and clean water for other reuse purposes. The system will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as provide alternative power resources and a cleaner environment in the region. The agreement targets to achieve USD20 million in market shares within 3 years in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

2. iCYCLE Malaysia, a solutions provider of waste separation and recycling, and sponsored by Multimedia University (MMU), is the developer of a recycling waste management system that enables one to recycle for a sustainable environment and at the same time, collect points to be exchanged for cash, shopping coupons or donated to welfare bodies. iCYCLE has signed two

MOUs with a combined worth of USD250,000 with Guangzhou, China and Kerala, India to operate its high technology recycling system in Tianhe District and Cochin city respectively.

Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation, Malaysia, Wilfred Madius Tangau, who officiated the launch of Green Innovation: Powering Your Future Week at the Malaysia Pavilion, commented: “The MOUs are a testament to Malaysia’s leadership in green growth innovation, and is a good start for Malaysian companies to bring their green technologies to the world. During Green Innovation Week, we expect to see more potential trade and cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation between Malaysia and Kazakhstan, as well as other EXPO participating countries.”

Led by the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, Malaysia (MOSTI), the Green Innovation: Powering Your Future Week is held from 26 – 30 June 2017 at the Malaysia Pavilion. The five-day event will have speakers from Government, NGOs and private sectors discussing sustainability of renewable biological resources and its conversion into value added products in the food, bio-chemicals, energy and healthcare wellness industries, via innovative and efficient technologies.

During the week, there will be talks, product demonstrations and business matching sessions that aim to disseminate information on current Science, Technology & Innovation efforts and provide a platform for Malaysian bio-based companies and entrepreneurs to tap into the vast experience, knowledge and innovation within the ecosystem while providing necessary support for the business development activities in bringing in FDIs to Malaysia.

Minister Tangau continued: “We have an unprecedented opportunity over the next five days to prove to the world that green growth innovation is in our nature. Malaysia has become an emerging market model and we need to use that leadership to prove that an emerging market can drive positive change towards future energy.”

“MOSTI’s presence at EXPO 2017 this week will be centered on showcasing Malaysia’s best practices and innovations in green and bio-based technology and attracting investments from institutions and companies located in the Central Asian region. Likewise, we are expecting more Malaysian companies to explore the Central Asian market.”

The supporting agencies that are part of the Green Innovation Week are Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corporation), SIRIM Berhad, Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM).
