YBhg Datuk Dr Mahathar bin Abd Wahab was appointed to the Board on 5 December 2025.
He holds a Bachelor of Medical Science from the University of St Andrews, a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Manchester, and a Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine from Universiti Sains Malaysia. YBhg Datuk Dr Mahathar has also completed a Certificate in Medical Law from the International Islamic University Malaysia, a Fellowship in Emergency Critical Care and Critical Ultrasound with WINFOCUS, and the Southeast Asia Healthcare Leadership (SEAL) Programme at Harvard Medical School.
YBhg Datuk Dr Mahathar brings with him extensive experience in the healthcare sector, having begun his service with the Ministry of Health in 1996. He has held numerous senior positions at both hospital and national levels, including Head of the Emergency and Trauma Department at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (2017–2025), Head of Emergency Medicine and Trauma Services, and President of the College of Emergency Physicians, Academy of Medicine Malaysia.
His distinguished service has earned him several honours, including the Panglima Setia Diraja (PSD) and the Darjah Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (SSAP).
He currently serves as the Director-General of Health Malaysia, a position he assumed in May 2025.
