TAIPEI, 17 July 2026 – Sarawak’s bio-based companies advanced strategic partnerships with Taiwan at BIO Asia–Taiwan 2026 by securing business collaborations and showcasing sustainable bio-based innovations to regional investors, industry leaders, and potential partners.
The participation was part of the efforts made by the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corporation) to facilitate Sarawak’s bio-based companies in penetrating the regional and international markets through Malaysia’s participation at the Malaysia Regional Collaboration Forum in conjunction with BIO Asia–Taiwan 2026.
Among the key outcomes was a collaboration between Sarawak-based Bio-based Accelerator (BBA) company Fly Technology Agriculture Sdn Bhd (FTA) and Taiwan’s Monster Biotech Co., Ltd. (Monster Biotech), valued at approximately RM1 million annually.
The agreement involves the long-term purchase and supply of Black Soldier Fly (BSF)-based animal feed ingredients and BSF frass biofertiliser, broadening export opportunities for Sarawak and strengthening the state’s position as a leader in sustainable development.
Chief Executive Officer of Bioeconomy Corporation, Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak, shared that the collaboration also supports FTA’s rural and community-based production model, which is part of the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak’s (M-FICORD) “Empowering the Black Soldier Fly Industry: Sustainable Protein Production and Waste Management” programme spearheaded by Bioeconomy Corporation.
“Through this partnership, we are bringing advanced technology, market access, and global linkages to Sarawak’s bioeconomy ecosystem, enabling local bio-based enterprises like FTA and rural communities to participate in higher-value economic opportunities.
Together, we are supporting Sarawak’s ambition to become a global model for sustainable development by driving bioinnovation-based commercial opportunities that generate lasting socioeconomic value for Malaysia, Taiwan, and the wider Asian region,” he stated.
According to Managing Director of FTA, Ts. Jeff Wee, the partnership between FTA and Monster Biotech will also explore the future adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance production efficiency and operational capabilities.
“The integration of AI technology will further enhance our production capabilities while empowering rural communities to participate in a more efficient and sustainable BSF industry. We appreciate Bioeconomy Corporation’s support in facilitating this international partnership, which opens new opportunities for FTA to expand our market reach and capabilities,” he said.
Sarawak’s bioeconomy strengths were further showcased through the participation of BioVerde Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (BVT) as an exhibitor and speaker at the Malaysia Regional Collaboration Forum. As the commercial arm of the Sarawak Biodiversity Council, BVT is leading biodiversity commercialisation and the development of the Sarawak BioIndustrial Park to bridge research, industry, and global partnerships, accelerating the growth of high-value bio-based industries.
Mohd Khairul said BVT’s participation highlighted Sarawak’s ability to translate its rich biodiversity and scientific capabilities into high-value bio-based products and industries, demonstrating the state’s potential to drive green economic growth and sustainable industrial development through strategic international partnerships.
Chief Executive Officer of BVT, Ts. Hazwan Razak, revealed that through Bio Asia–Taiwan 2026, global partners are seeking not just novel bio-based materials, but also trusted innovation ecosystems for collaboration and growth.
“Sarawak’s unique combination of rich biodiversity, scientific capabilities, a supportive policy environment, and a growing bioeconomy ecosystem provides a strong foundation for global collaboration. We thank Bioeconomy Corporation for facilitating our participation at Bio Asia–Taiwan 2026, which has strengthened BVT’s international network and laid the foundation for long-term collaborations with biotechnology companies, research institutions, manufacturers, and investors to accelerate biodiversity commercialisation,” he added.
The Sarawak participation formed part of a broader Malaysian delegation at BIO Asia-Taiwan 2026. Led by Bioeconomy Corporation, the delegation showcased the country’s strengths in precision healthcare, sustainable biotechnology and bio-based innovation, while building strategic business engagements with international partners.
Mohd Khairul said Bioeconomy Corporation remains committed to expanding international opportunities for Malaysian bio-based and biotechnology companies, while ensuring that Sarawak’s bioeconomy capabilities continue to gain greater visibility and access to regional and global markets.
“Our role goes beyond facilitating participation at international events. We are building bridges between Sarawak’s bioeconomy ecosystem and global markets by creating pathways for investment, technology collaboration, and opportunities that support economic growth and contribute towards the state’s sustainable development aspirations,” he said.
BIO Asia–Taiwan 2026 is among the Asia-Pacific region’s leading biotechnology conferences, bringing together industry leaders, investors, researchers and policymakers to foster international collaboration and business opportunities. This year’s event takes place from 15 to 19 July 2026 at TaiNEX 1 & 2, Nangang Exhibition Center, Taipei.
